New addition to the track is a separate A/C power system
using diodes in the cars & controllers. Eight (8) cars can now be run
& controlled independently on the 4 lane track system or 7 cars and a pace
car. Racing with added cars makes passing maneuvers much more critical
& adds a VERY realistic element to the racing.
Eighteen years of work & dedication has resulted in a spectacular
world class layout in Dearborn
Michigan. Obviously this is a labor of love. Recent efforts this
year (2002) have expanded the layout an incredible 50% with a very realistic replica in
1/32 scale of the most famous turn in motor racing, the corkscrew at Laguna Seca,
complete with stomach wrenching severe elevation change. Scenery is
composed of real rocks, realistic scale kitty litter run off areas, ravines with
water & pipes and a border fence made from recycled automatic transmission
shifter pawls. I was honored to be one of the first to have an opportunity
to race on it after the construction was recently completed. To say the
least, it is spectacular in every way !
Appropriate posters
help to set the mood along with displays of cool die cast cars and other
collectibles. This man is a world class artisan and the work he does on
his slot cars is also spectacular to behold. This effort also has
developed into a real family affair with the kids as much into this as is
dad. The track has some really spectacular features. There are 4
main lanes of racing (1/32 cars only please !) that are closely spaced preventing
faster cars from overtaking in some cases. To pass you need to flick a
lever at the control panel and switch to an auxiliary set of lanes (see one of
the bottom pictures) ... zooming
by the slower car and ultimately slotting back into your original main lane on
the next circuit. The control panel comes equipped with a fuel gage that
will result in slow racing when near empty until refilling by flicking the lever
again to enter the pits ! This feature is not yet enabled, but you can get
the idea from some of the shots.
Wow !
